Angel’s interest in agriculture began as a child, growing up in a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of rural North Carolina, but her passion for sustainable agriculture began while planting heirloom corn on the deforested slopes of El Salvador. Angel has spent over five years living and working with non-profit organizations and smallholder farmers on sustainable agriculture initiatives. She recently completed her PhD in Agroecology at North Carolina State University, where she used participatory action research (PAR) to evaluate the role of sustainable soil management in improving food security for smallholder farming communities. Angel now works as a food and agriculture consultant both locally and internationally with Datu Research. She brings passion for food systems change, and in depth experience with non-profits and the academic research community to The People’s Seed.
